Family Violence Awareness Month
From November 1 to 30, communities across Canada observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, honour survivors, and remember those who have lost their lives to domestic, intimate partner, and gender-based violence. It’s a month to shed light on issues too often kept in the shadows, to amplify the voices of those affected, and to stand united in creating safer homes, relationships, and communities. Whether by attending events, wearing purple, sharing resources, or checking in with someone who may be struggling—every action matters.

About
All about
PCCS
For over 30 years, Pembina Crisis Connections Society (PCCS) has been a pillar of support, advocacy, and hope in Drayton Valley, Brazeau County, and the surrounding rural areas. Founded in the wake of a local tragedy, PCCS was created to fill a deeply felt need: a safe, confidential space where survivors of violence could turn for help. What began as a community’s response to crisis has grown into a trusted, trauma-informed organization supporting individuals impacted by gender-based violence, mental health challenges, rural isolation, and systemic marginalization.
Our story is one of resilience, where we listen to those we serve and adapt our programs to meet their evolving needs. Whether it’s offering safety planning for someone facing intimate partner violence, helping navigate Alberta’s complex legal systems, or connecting rural residents with mental health resources, PCCS is built on the belief that everyone deserves access to support, no matter their circumstances.
What sets us apart is our deep-rooted, client-centred approach. We don’t impose barriers; we work to remove them. Our services are confidential, culturally responsive, and equity-informed. We recognize that every person’s experience is different, and we walk alongside them, offering practical tools, compassionate guidance, and a path toward safety and empowerment.
Visitors to this site will find more than information; they’ll find a starting point. A place to feel seen, heard, and supported. Whether you’re here for yourself, a loved one, or to learn how to make a difference in your community, PCCS is here to help you navigate where you are and where you want to be.
We believe in creating safer communities through awareness, education, and action. With campaigns like the Purple Lights Initiative, our role as a Clare’s Law referral agency, and our expanding legal navigation resources, we continue to evolve as a frontline organization deeply committed to the people we serve. Because at PCCS, your safety, your voice, and your journey matter.
